Results for Term 1

My results are disappointing. I got an overall grade of 3.13 which was way higher than my previous results in the past few years of Secondary School life. The most unappealing grade was Chinese which I gotten a grade of B4. There are several reasons for me to feel this way. Firstly, Chinese has always been one of the best subjects for me since Primary School I used to score at least 85% in Primary School exams and I had been one of the best students in my Chinese class. Even though my score dropped to about 75% in Secondary school, I managed to maintain my top few positions in class. But this time it was a disaster, in fact, the worst catastrophe that I would have imagined. With a grade of B4, I was one mark short of the average mark in my class. It means that I had fallen to the lower stream and my dominance in Chinese class has been lost. Ironically, I received a higher score for English Language compared to Chinese while English had been my weaker language since childhood. This was also one of the reasons that I feel my Chinese score was the most depressing. I would attribute my sudden drop in Chinese grade to several factors. Firstly, the enrolment of PRC scholars into our class meant for a rise in our overall Chinese language standards and thus our teacher would most probably increase the difficulty level of our Chinese test. Secondly, it is due to the change in focus in terms of languages in the holidays. I have actually diverted my focus to other languages which were weaker, which are French and English. It was such that I did not spend much time on Chinese during the holidays resulting in my possible drop in my command of the Chinese language. Thirdly, it may be due to the differences in teacher methods of my current teacher as compared to my previous Chinese teacher. My previous Chinese teacher has taught me for two years straight since Sec 1 which made me especially used to his method of teaching and thus making change in teaching methods uncomfortable to me, resulting to my inability to excel in tests and assignments. For these, I have a few contingency measures. I will read more books and consult the Chinese scholars when applicable. However even development in languages is also very important as the diversion of focus to only Chinese would meant a repeat of the disaster on another subject and I will read MORE books of all three languages evenly and ensure the excellence of all three languages. I believe in that change is the only constant thus getting used to constant change is a must for survival in the ever-evolving world. With these measures in place I am confident that success will be just a few steps away.
